Ashley Smith

Ashley Smith is a multifaceted professional, blending her expertise as a scientist, educator, and science communicator to champion equitable STEM education. Currently serving as a Program Associate in the Office of Undergraduate STEM Education at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), Ashley plays a pivotal role in managing the Project Kaleidoscope Regional Networks. Before joining AAC&U, she dedicated her talents to teaching K-12 students as the STEM Student Enrichment Coordinator. In this capacity, she spearheaded the creation of D.R.E.A.M. Labs, an innovative initiative that, particularly during the pandemic, provided students with a unique window into the world of STEM through virtual laboratory experiences. Ashley possesses a diverse skill set encompassing both qualitative and quantitative laboratory research, marine policy, and science communications. Her interests lie in fostering equitable and inclusive STEM teaching in K-12 and higher education, forging pathways to educational opportunities for low-income and marginalized groups, and promoting diversity in marine science.

Ashley's academic journey commenced with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine and Environmental Science from Hampton University. This foundational experience has served as a launchpad for her dedication to advancing STEM education and creating a more inclusive, diverse, and exciting world of science for all.
